The USS Cole (DDG-67) is a destroyer of the United States Navy and belongs to the Arleigh Burke class. It is approximately 154 meters long and 20 meters wide. With a full payload, the displacement is around 8,300 tons. It was launched 25 years ago today. On June 8, 1996, the Navy officially put the ship into service. Worldwide attention gained Cole as the al-Qaida committed an explosive attack on Aden, Yemen, on October 12, 2000, in which 17 US soldiers and two terrorists were killed and 39 people injured. The ship was then repaired in the United States. The cost of the repair was around $ 250 million, which is about a quarter of the original construction cost. In 2002 the Cole was put back into service.
